2J2AIR 105.3 TOODYAY COMMUNITY RADIO
Toodyay (Duidgee), known as Newcastle between 1860 and 1910, is a town on the Avon River in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 85 kilometres north-east of Perth on Ballardong Nyoongar land.

The first European settlement occurred in the area in 1836. After flooding in the 1850s, the town site was moved to higher ground 2 kilometres upstream in the 1860s. This was proclaimed by Governor Arthur Kennedy on 1 October 1860 as "Newcastle" and the original settlement came to be referred to as "Old Toodyay".
In May 1910, due to confusion with the New South Wales city of Newcastle, a name-change to Toodyay was proposed and the original town site, which had by this time declined substantially, became "West Toodyay".

The meaning of the name is uncertain, although it is Indigenous Noongar in origin.
In an early 1834 reference it is transcribed as "Toodye" while maps in 1836 referred to "Duidgee". The Shire of Toodyay's official history gives the meaning as "place of plenty". However, local anthropologists Ken Macintyre and Dr Barb Dobson refute this. They postulate "Toodye" or Duidgee most likely mimics a birdcall, possibly the restless flycatcher or one of that family. According to Noongar belief, a bird calls its own name.

Another program, Ready 4 Country, reached the 100 episode mark as a regular part of Friday Night Rock, playing current country rock.

As a community radio station providing a service to the residents and businesses of Toodyay and surrounding regions, it is always our intent, and practice, to create within our operations a sense of community for those involved with 2J2Air Live Radio Inc. as members, presenters, administrators and associated bodies.
Our purpose can best be described as being ‘to entertain and to inform’. In doing this, our licence parameters require us to provide a balanced range of music and general interest programming across a diversity of genres, and community interests. Promotion of local community groups, eg arts and crafts, theatre and singing groups, local authors and their work, sporting, local events and local government events, is a priority for the station. Also we provide work experience opportunities for students through negotiation with, and in accordance with education requirements.

The community is the beneficiary of the services we provide. Notwithstanding this, it is the aim of the station to provide members and presenters with the opportunity to acquire the skills involved in all aspects of live-to-air radio, to enjoy and value the service they are providing to the community, and to feel a sense of achievement in the process.
2J2Air Live Radio Inc. encourages active participation by members of the greater community as is reflected in the station’s ‘tag-line’ of ‘Heartbeat of the Community’.
